A Guide To Selecting Artwork for a Space

Date

Oftentimes a piece of art is first taken as a centerpiece in a space where art can be displayed. This can be in any room but most often a foyer or living room.

We love it when paintings match a space, with color contrast, or color sync. However, that might mean we search for an abstract artwork, or an image with classical subject matter. This depends on the feeling a homeowner is hoping to achieve. Art is so subjective it is most often the most challenging part of the project. Not always but typically the last piece of the puzzle that completes the room.

We source local artisans, online look books, and a variety of qualified art vendors to identify, bid, and purchase the right piece for your space. Many times I commission a local artist to create a special piece designed for the room color & size.

It’s probably the most difficult, but rewarding process, and often a fairly costly endeavor, to purchase custom art. Depending on your budget, we may also suggest more cost effective ways with limited print’s or a reproduction to stay within means.. When we select art, it’s a personal matter, but if not chosen wisely it has the potential to negatively impact the design. A great piece of art can be a conversation piece when entertaining. Sculpture, wall paintings, murals, chandeliers, and even large exotic pieces of furniture can be considered art. In our own view, what constitutes art, is anything that is not specifically functional, but more for just observing and reflecting on.
