Charleston Style Meets Myrtle Beach
This project was the second room in my clients’ home that I was asked to design. They had existing dark black furniture in the master bedroom, and the goal was to lighten the space while creating a cohesive flow with the kitchen and living room on the first floor. The only existing element we chose to keep was one wall of blue leaf wallpaper, which remained as a beautiful feature wall.
I presented three furniture options, and the design they loved most incorporated shades of blue and green, echoing the color palette of the living room redesign we completed three years earlier. A soft, neutral tufted headboard with gold nailheads became the centerpiece against the feature wall. Two large three-drawer nightstands flank the bed, while a large curved nine-drawer dresser sits beneath the television. Across the room, a tall, Art Deco-inspired curved armoire balances the composition.
The furniture is from Bramble, a company known for colorful custom finishes and beautifully crafted pieces. With so many finish options available, the custom furniture requires a six-month lead time. Some things are definitely worth the wait.
Layered Color, Custom Details & Coastal Sophistication
The window treatments feature color blocking and blackout lining while continuing the blue and green palette. A combination of gold and Lucite hardware adds an element of transitional sophistication. A handmade, rag-rolled rug was created in a custom size and color palette to coordinate perfectly with the furnishings.
The ceiling received its own design moment with white painted plank boards and a beautiful 72-inch white ceiling fan with gold accents. The result is a subtle architectural detail that adds character without overwhelming the room.
A Bathroom Transformation in Blue & Gold
The bathroom was completely gutted and rebuilt with all-new materials. Several design elements were carried over from the bedroom, including the gold finishes and a vibrant blue transitional vanity. The wall-mounted, floating vanity creates a more spacious and open appearance. Horizontal white plank boards serve as the backsplash, while a white quartz countertop completes the clean, elegant look.
Gold pendant lights hang from the ceiling on either side of the window, creating a beautiful connection to the master bedroom, where similar lighting is used above the nightstands. Repeating this element adds additional surface lighting while providing a subtle design surprise when entering the room.
Charleston Charm, Reimagined for Coastal Living
This was a wonderful project to complete for my neighbors. The homes in our area are typically two- and three-story residences designed to echo the architectural character of Charleston, with colorful exteriors and classic black shutters.
In this home, that Charleston-inspired charm continues inside. The combination of blue and green, custom furnishings, gold accents, and thoughtful architectural details creates an interior that feels connected to its surroundings while remaining distinctly personal.
It was a pleasure to transform this space into a home that reflects both the character of the neighborhood and the personality of my clients.
