A Moody Master Suite Inspired by Today’s Design Trends
During my very first visit, my client, Tracy, told me she wanted her master bedroom to feel (moody and dramatic), inspired by the color-drenched interiors she had been seeing on HGTV. Like many designers, I had watched this growing trend evolve—where walls, trim, baseboards, crown molding, and doors are all painted the same rich color to create a sophisticated, immersive space.
We began with the feature wall, selecting an abstract white and navy floral wallpaper as the room’s focal point. From there, we drenched the remaining walls and trim in (Sherwin-Williams’ Salty Dog), a vibrant navy blue that completely transformed the room. A curved upholstered headboard softens the bold color palette while adding warmth and texture. Coordinating nightstands frame the bed, and the textured chest is truly a showpiece, featuring a wallpaper-wrapped blue finish accented with long acrylic drawer pulls.
The dresser provides a beautiful contrast with its alabaster-finished drawer fronts, champagne and acrylic hardware, and crisp white lacquer case. A carefully selected area rug ties all the colors together, providing a soft and welcoming landing each morning.
Layering Texture, Color & Timeless Details
Silver curtain rods with acrylic finials echo the hardware found throughout the room, creating a cohesive design. Custom blue-and-white pinstriped window treatments span the entire window wall, adding softness and elegance. Barn doors leading into both the bedroom and bathroom add architectural charm while also improving wheelchair accessibility.
A Spa-Inspired Bathroom with Coordinated Style
The master bathroom continues the design story with coordinating wallpaper behind the vanity, creating a seamless transition from the bedroom. We loved the look so much that we extended the wallpaper into the water closet, adding another layer of personality.
Two elegant arched mirrors flank the double vanity, complemented by a striking center sconce that serves as a beautiful focal point. A new quartz countertop reinforces the room’s clean, timeless aesthetic, while a custom blue-and-white pinstriped shower curtain perfectly completes the design.
A special thank you to sweet Bonnie for happily modeling and testing out the new bedding at the end of the project. She was the perfect finishing touch to an unforgettable transformation!
